A family is invited to spend the entire weekend at a lonely house in the countryside, but as the weekend progresses, they realize that there is a dark side to the family that invited them. Blumhouse Productions has since become a major force in the horror genre. See how IMDb users rate all Blumhouse horror films since 2007. The story is inspired by the experiences of Christian Tafdrup, director of the original Danish film Speak No Evil (2022), who befriended a Dutch couple while on vacation in Tuscany with his wife. Although the Dutch were a bit socially awkward, the two couples got along very well, and upon returning home, Tafdrup received an invitation from a Dutch family to come to the Netherlands.

He thought about it for a while, but decided that it would feel weird being around people he didn’t really know; his story for the film came about when he unleashed his darkest fantasies of what would happen if he agreed (while maintaining that the original Dutch couple never gave off bad vibes). In this remake, the nationalities of both families have been changed to American and British. In the bathroom, when he washes his eye, he has a subconjunctival hemorrhage in his left eye, in the next scene his eyes are completely clear. Ben Dalton: Why are you doing this to us? Paddy: Because you let us!.

I just watched the new version of Speak No Evil and in typical Americanized fashion the only thing the original had to do was change the ending, making the original absolutely amazing to watch as a horror lover. I didn’t hate the 2024 version, but it didn’t have nearly the tension of the first.
10/10 for the first, 6/10 for the second
It didn’t make you angry like the last time. It didn’t make you want to strangle all the actors like the first time. And it didn’t make you feel anything for the characters like the first. While you may hate the stupid naivety or pure evil of the characters, you still felt something for all of them in the first. And that’s generous because it wasn’t as awful as it could have been, but really watch the original if you really want a good movie that makes you cry and not go “oh what happened”.
